The waste from Sizewell B that has been generated since 1995 has been slowly filling the ‘wet’ stores (storage ponds) until reaching their capacity in 2015. Vinci with EDF Energy announced that Sizewell B would then become home to the UK’s first dry nuclear fuel store.
The £200m new build store will house uranium oxide waste until 2055 in concrete casks.
Munro undertook the Design & Build M&E which will provide sufficient additional capacity for waste for the remaining lifetime of Sizewell B.
