New Facilities Improve Employee Wellbeing at Granta Park

Situated on a picturesque 160 acre site just off the A11 in South East Cambridgeshire, Granta Park is the business home to over 2,500 people. Centred around science and biomedical organisations, the park boasts an ability to provide the perfect work-life balance, offering a variety of facilities to compliment the offices and labs situated there. From a cricket pitch to woodland walks and a social programme for sport, religion and theatre, Granta Park has it all. Especially with the newest addition on the site, due to open in 2018, the state-of-the-art leisure facility known as the Amenities Building.

Munro Building Services is currently providing mechanical and electrical installations working with main contractor VINCI Construction UK. Nuffield Health will provide the day to day management, operating the facility on behalf of the client BioMed Realty. The facility will include a 25 metre lap pool, a large open gym area, spin and dance studios, squash courts, consultation rooms, cafeteria and a juice bar, and will provide premium gym facilities to employees on the site.

Did you know that…

Nuffield Health’s research on employee wellbeing states that:

“There has been a rise of 122% in reported workplace illness, with 1.3 million people each year suffering work-related ill health. Some of the health concerns experienced include stress and lifestyle related diseases such as cardiovascular disease.”

By investing in employee wellbeing and providing easier access to sport and leisure facilities, research shows that employers can benefit from improved productivity, better employee retention rates, gain an edge over competitors, all the while having happier employees. And what do happy employees do? Statistics from a Forbes 2014 report states that happy employees are 32% more productive, are 3 times more creative and take fewer sick days than unhappy ones.

Adapting Leisure Design to Enhance User Experience

With Nuffield’s robust expertise in the leisure sector, the scheme’s original design was adapted to suit the tenant when they came on board later in the project, demonstrating Munro’s ability to provide flexible solutions and adapt with the tenant’s vision. Additional audio visual was a must for the facility to fit in with the Nuffield branding and user experience, meanwhile some of the rooms’ original planned use were altered to provide new treatment and consultation rooms.

This project will continue to support Granta Park’s vision to provide the very best purpose built environment for leading businesses of today and tomorrow. With the park forming part of the rapidly growing London- Stansted- Cambridge Life Science Corridor, this new leisure facility will certainly ensure the park continues to expand and attract new happy and fulfilled tenants.
